Race Overview
Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club welcomes you to the 2015 Ventura Outrigger Challenge—a SCORA sanctioned race held in Ventura, California. This is a premier race with easy access to the beach and the actual race start, held at one of the finest beach communities in Southern California.

Activities
Race activities begin and end with performances by traditional Japanese drummers Togen Daiko and Hawaiian music by Kaimana Pendergrass Ukulele Club at noon. Hokuloa will host a raffle at the race and an after race gathering at Margaritaville in Ventura Harbor Village.

Vendors
Vendors will be at the race site with a wide array of items for sale including paddling items, handmade artisan crafts, beach accessories, and the Fire Family Foundation.

Beer Garden
Hosted this year by award winning Island Brewery, the beer garden will open at 12:00 pm. All participants MUST be at least 21 years of age with valid ID.

Awards
Awards will be given to first, second, and third place winners in all categories.

Food & Drink
Breakfast and coffee will be available starting at 7:00 am. Matt’s Coffee truck. Tacos de Mexico, and West BBQ will provide breakfast and lunch. Kona Shave Ice will be available from 11 am to 2 pm. Water and drinks will be sold. Additionally, nearby Ventura Harbor Village boasts a selection of fun and casual restaurants. BBQ’s are allowed on the beach.

Just for Kids
Channel Islands National Park, just steps away, has a new ocean exhibit in the tower lookout, a living tidepool exhibit with ocean critters, ranger talks, and a great film to see.

Location and Regulations
PLEASE NO SMOKING AT THE RACE LOCATION. Alcohol is not allowed on the beach, or in the parking areas. Harbor Cove Beach is a dog friendly beach. Keep your dog on LEASH.

Directions
Travelling North on 101 to Parking Area

Take Highway 101 North to Ventura
Exit Seaward Ave – Turn left onto Seaward
Turn left on Harbor Blvd.
Continue on Harbor Blvd (about 2 miles) to Schooner Drive.
Turn right and then another immediate right for parking.
A shuttle will take you to the race site. Carpoolers can unload people and gear at the race site and proceed to the remote parking lot following a drop-off. See map below.


Travelling South on 101 to Parking Area
Take Highway 101 South
Exit Seaward Ave – This exit takes you to Harbor Blvd –Turn Left on Harbor
Continue on Harbor (about 2 miles) to Schooner Drive. Turn right on Schooner and then another immediate right for parking.
A shuttle will take you to the race site. Carpoolers can unload people and gear at the race site and proceed to the remote parking lot following a drop-off. See map below.


Trailer Unloading/Parking and Early Bird Parking
Follow above directions to Harbor Blvd.
Continue on Harbor Blvd (about 2.5 miles) to Spinnaker Drive. Turn right onto Spinnaker. Boat unloading/parking is at the very end of Spinnaker Drive – through the gate.
Park trailers and leave tow vehicle with the trailer at the race site.

**Parking at the race site is extremely limited and is first come, first serve basis only. Once parking is full near the race site, ALL paddlers must park in the remote parking lot.


Safety Boats
From Harbor Blvd, turn right onto Schooner Drive.
Schooner Drive will dead-end after one block, turn right on Anchors Way.
Boat Launch is immediately on the left off Anchors way on the NE side of the harbor.


Parking
There is free parking at lot near Schooner Drive and Harbor Blvd. You can drop passengers and gear off at the race site and then proceed to the designated parking lot and use the free shuttle service to race site. Limited parking is available near the race site for early arrivals (See map).

There is NO RACE PARKING near the businesses of Ventura Harbor Village. Our permits for 2016 and future races are dependent on everyone’s cooperation
